"Jay Garrick, reporting for duty!"
ā€

Flash (Jay Garrick) appears as a skin for The Flash in Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013), and a Premier Skin for the Flash in Injustice 2 (2017).

About Jay Garrick[]

Jay Garrick was a college student working in a laboratory, who, prior to 1940, had been taking a smoke break whilst he was working, when he inadvertently inhaled hard water vapors. As a result, these vapors awakened a latent metagene in Garrickā€™s DNA. Garrick found that he could run at superhumanly fast speeds. After a brief stint as a college football star, Garrick donned a red shirt with a lightning symbol on the chest, a pair of red galoshes, a set of leggings, a belt, and a helmet, which belonged to his father, Joseph, a World War I veteran. Garrick modified the helmet, adding wings, basing this design choice upon Mercury, the Roman god of speed. He then began his crime fighting career, taking on the name ā€œThe Flashā€. His early adventures involved battling nonsensical villains, though he later co-founded the Justice Society of America, amassing a web of allies, including Kent Nelson, aka Doctor Fate (seemingly the only surviving JSA member apart from Garrick prior to the regimeā€™s founding), Dan Garrett, the original Blue Beetle, Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, Ted Grant, AKA Wildcat, Al Pratt, the first metahuman to use the codename ā€œThe Atomā€, Dinah Drake, the original Black Canary and mother of Dinah Lance, the current Black Canary, Powerman, a powerful robot who once served as an assistant to Superman, and Courtney Whitmore, AKA Stargirl. One day, after years of fighting crime, he later found himself in modern times after running too fast. As of the events of the One Earth Regimeā€™s founding, it is unknown what ultimately became of Jay Garrick, though it is clear he is aware of Black Adamā€™s imprisonment after the Regimeā€™s initial collapse, so it is safe to say he is still alive somewhere.

Biography[]

Jay Garrick is a speedster from the past, a co-founder of the Justice Society of America and the original Flash. He is friends with Doctor Fate, the original Black Canary Dinah Drake, the original Blue Beetle Dan Garret, Al Pratt (the first individual to use the codename ā€œThe Atomā€), Ted Grant (AKA Wildcat) and original Green Lantern Alan Scott. His successor Barry Allen looks up to him as an inspirational figure and mentor. It is stated that Dinah trusts him a lot as a friend of her mother's. In spite of some flirtatious comments by others, it is clear that Jay remains loyal to his wife, Joan Williams, and that he is somewhat out of touch with modern human behavior, and as such is considered by others to have an old fashioned way of thinking.

Trivia[]

  • His voice actor, Travis Willingham, is married to fellow Injustice 2 voice actor Laura Bailey, who voices Supergirl.
  • Jay Garrick is one of the few playable characters (or in this case, premier skins) who prefers not to resort to foul language if they can help it. In fact, when others use foul language in front of him, he is shown to be quick to advise the interlocutor to restrain their language.
  • In any fight involving 2 players playing as Jay Garrick, Jay will believe the opponent to be Clifford DeVoe, AKA ā€œThinkerā€, who was one of his enemies in the original comics.
  • In an interaction with Power Girl, he mentions Powerman and Stargirl, 2 members of the Justice Society of America (essentially the precursor to the Justice League).
  • In an interaction with Supergirl, he will compare her to Liberty Belle, a superheroine from around the same era as Garrick.
  • In an interaction with Doctor Fate, he will note their history as allies, referring to the latterā€™s time as a member of the Justice Society of America. Fate, however, seems to have forgotten this, as evident by his response. Due to Doctor Fateā€™s death at the hands of Brainiac, this would make Jay Garrick the last living member of the Justice Society of America.
