Reverse Flash is a premier skin for The Flash and a supporting antagonist in Injustice 2 (2017).
He appeared in the mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us, achieved by online battles. He is classified as a Gadget user. Reverse Flash relies entirely upon his speed to fight, literally running circles around slower opponents. He is also the arch-nemesis of The Flash (alongside Captain Cold and Gorilla Grodd).
About Reverse Flash[]
Eobard Thawne was born in the 25th Century. He was an only child who was born to parents who were killed in an accident. In his lonliness, he discovered the Flash, and would grow obsessed with him. He would dedicate his life to studying the Flash and researching his power source, the Speed Force. During his adulthood, he had found a capsule containing the Flash’s original costume, from which he had derived trace amounts of power from the speed force. Unsatisfied, he resolved to become a hero like the flash. However, due to a lack of opportunities for heroics, he created his own dangers, before “saving” the victims to make himself look like the hero. Sometime later, the Flash of the 21st Century, Barry Allen, would travel to Eobard’s time, at which the latter was awestruck to see him. the flash would teach him new ways of using his powers, and they would bond over their shared belief that “Every second is a gift”. Unfortunately for Eobard, Barry discovered the truth behind Eobard’s so-called “heroics” and turned him in to the local authorities after defeating the rogue speedster. After this, Eobard would resolve to become a better person. He convinced the authorities that he would do more good for society as a professor than behind bars. He would then apply for a job at the Flash Museum as a tour guide, and rise through the ranks to become its curator, considering the museum his own. Determined to prove to Barry that he has been rehabilitated, he travelled to the 21st century to seek his acceptance. Deeming it arrogant that he was ready to actually be the Flash, he changed his costume’s color to yellow, which the Flash’s partners wore. However, witnessing Barry give Wally West a special watch inscribed with the same advice that he gave Thawne, he realized that he was not as special to Barry as he thought. Enraged, he returned to the 25th Century, to the Flash Museum. It was there that he realized that his destiny was to torment the Flash. Giving in to fate, he created his own equivalent to the Speed Force, the Negative Speed Force, and switched the emblem on his costume. Believing that tormenting Barry would be the only way that Barry would spend time with him, he made it his mission to torment him to make certain he lived in pain as Eobard did until he learned to treat him specially and see him as his “real” friend. He did however accomplish one good deed: defeating the villainous Paradox in the 25th Century, with the aid of the Renegades, a law enforcement squad modelling themselves after the Rogues. Despite his accomplishment, he was unable to overcome his vendetta against the Flash. Thus, he resorted to changing the past and the present in an attempt to ruin Barry’s life. The most atrocious act he committed was the murder of Barry’s mother, Nora, the result of which being that Barry’s father, Henry was falsely accused of the crime and sent to prison, leaving the future Barry without parents. He was also responsible for the creation of other members of the Flash Family’s rogues gallery, including Zoom, Godspeed, and worst of all, Barry’s future children. He would cause many villainous acts to torment Barry, resulting in a seething rivalry between the two. During Superman’s rule over the earth, during one of Reverse Flash’s trips to the past, the One-Earth Regime killed one of Reverse Flash’s ancestors, leaving him trapped in the 21st Century, much to his fury. He would take his anger out on the Flash, blaming Flash for his involvement in the regime.
Biography[]
Eobard Thawne was a fan of Flash's from the future, who replicated the same experiment that gave Flash his powers. After traveling back and learning of his destiny as the Flash's arch-nemesis, he sought to ruin Barry's life, partly due to the fact he cannot kill him without creating a time paradox. One of the worst acts he committed was killing Barry's mother.
Injustice[]
Reverse Flash appears in Injustice, the form of The Flash’s “Blackest Night” skin. In the mobile version of the game he is a playable character.
Injustice 2[]
He is trapped in the past because the Regime killed one of his ancestors (possibly Heather Macy), and he joined Grodd's Society in vengeance.
With help from Deadshot and Captain Cold, he attempted to kill Barry, pursuing him across the country. He manages to catch up to him in Gotham City. Flash asks why Reverse Flash doesn't go back to his time; he responds that since his ancestor was killed by the Regime, he cannot return to his time. He then fights him, but he fails and runs off.
He is later seen with Captain Cold fighting Wonder Woman; however, he becomes frozen when he is inadvertently hit by a cold blast from Captain Cold. When Captain Cold is defeated, he manages to free himself and fights Wonder Woman, but is defeated.
Along with the other members of the Society, he disbands when he realizes that Brainiac will destroy the Earth rather than let them conquer it.

Trivia[]
- His voice actor Liam O'Brien previously voiced him from LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014).
- The Eobard's ancestor having been killed is a possible reference to The CW's The Flash (2014-present), where his ancestor committed suicide to stop him.
- However, the effects are quite different, as in that show, that action erased Eobard from existence (instead of trapping him in the past), save a few time remnants to keep his impact on the timeline stable.
- Reverse Flash and Grid are the only premiere skins to be in story mode.
- Though the Reverse Flash in Injustice 2 is Eobard Thawne, he makes a reference to his successor, Hunter Zolomon, in a conversation with Starfire, who tells him to stay away from Wally West. Reverse Flash responds "show me a hero, I'll show you a tragedy." In the comics, Zolomon desires to make Wally West a better hero by putting him through tragedy.
- Eobard Thawne was the only character who does not have his own ending after defeating Brainiac, and the ending belongs to The Flash.
- In a mirror match, the opponent Reverse-Flash will occasionally claim to be Professor Zoom, another of Eobard Thawne’s aliases.
