About John Stewart

John Stewart, along with his sister, Eleanor (who died when they were children) were born in Detroit, Michigan, where his life was marked with poverty. His actions growing up often put him at odds with the police. His mother, Shirley, was a community organizer who would try to make things better and inspired John to try to make the world a better place. Upon finishing high school, he felt it was time to leave home, and thus he joined the United States Marine Corps, much to his mother’s dismay, as she feared he was contributing to the American Military Complex. However, John needed the money to afford college tuition, and he believed that protest without action is not enough. As a marine, he excelled in full combat training and proved to be an excellent marksman, and also served in the Korean War as a scout sniper. After a tour of duty in the Middle East, he rose to the rank of sergeant before being deployed to Gotham City to Evacuate citizens taking shelter from a deluge. Ultimately, the building where the civilians were taking shelter could not withstand the strong winds, and thus a confrontation between Stewart and his squad, and the anarchist known as Anarky, who had been inciting civil unrest among the evacuees, ensued. As Stewart’s ruthless commanding officer, Lieutenant Tasker, was willing to kill civilians, Stewart broke rank and successfully diffused the situation to prevent bloodshed. He managed to seize control from Anarky and keep the peace. Despite his heroic actions, Stewart was reprimanded for his behavior by Tasker. The situation escalated quickly to the point of violence, which led to Stewart being court martialed for striking Tasker in the first place. In recognition of his prior actions, however, the courts were gracious enough to grant Stewart an Honorable Discharge. Wanting to build a better world, Stewart moved to San Diego, California, where he studied architecture. After earning his degree, he was hired to oversee a project for Ferris Aircraft, Incorporated. Unbeknownst to Stewart, however, the Guardians of the Universe had been watching him since he was very young, seeing him as a potential asset to the Green Lantern Corps. To test his worth, the Guardians dispatched a manhunter, an intergalactic law enforcement android. Without Hesitation, John valiantly fought the manhunter. His courage earned him a Green Lantern ring, which aided him in fighting the manhunter off. Quickly mastering the ring, Stewart destroyed the manhunter, before being brought to Oa, where he found himself face-to-face with the guardians themselves. The guardians praised Stewart for his desire for peace and his willingness to fight for it. Fearing that he may one day challenge the guardians themselves, they collectively agreed to withhold the fact that they were the ones responsible for sending the manhunter to begin with from Stewart, who became a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Biography

A former Marine and architect, John Stewart was originally chosen by the Guardians to be backup for Hal Jordan. Since then, John has become a heralded member of the Corps.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

John is not present in the storyline, as he was killed by Sinestro, a few years prior to the events of the game, John was a supporter of Superman alongside Hal Jordan who John served as a backup to, when he, Hal and the Sinestro Corps were fighting their former allies and comrades in order to prevent them from taking Superman captive, he was approached by Sinestro, who seemed to try to make him a Yellow Lantern but actually killed him. His death resulted in the death of fellow Green Lantern Guy Gardner at the hands of Hal, who falsely blamed Guy for his death without realizing that Sinestro, who manipulated him, was the one who killed him. His death indirectly resulted in Hal becoming a Yellow Lantern.

John Stewart appears during Hal Jordan's victory pose, with other Lanterns from the Corps. If John is a playable Green Lantern, he will be the one who appeared in front of the Lanterns, including Hal Jordan.
